Q&A

Is it possible to do the laundry in a whirlpool bath?

It is not recommended to do the laundry in it. There are special household appliances intended for this purpose.

Under what conditions is it possible to keep up an acrylic bath (a whirlpool bath)?

The acrylic bath is intended for house application and it is not placed in the street. There are no additional measures required for keeping up the bath in case of its long-term use. It is recommended to rinse the bath and to wipe it dry with a soft cloth after each time you take the bath.

Is it possible to take a bath with salt or foam or to dye hair in it?

We don't recommend taking a whirlpool bath with salt. Crystals of salt don’t dissolve completely and the remnants may scratch the bath case. It is possible to use foam. In this case it is important to control a water level in the bath that shall be 5–7 centimeters above the upper edge of whirlpool jets and illumination lamps. It is not also recommended to dye hair in the bath.

How do I wash an acrylic bath?

It is better to use specialized cleaners for acrylic surfaces. In case you don’t have any of those you shall use a liquid cleaner or a napkin made of a soft fabric. To keep the bath shining, you can wipe its surface with a tissue moistened with a special polishing agent. Persistent spots on the surface of an acrylic bath are removed with the usual means used in households for washing up the dishes. It is excluded to use detergents with the abrasive particles, containing ammonia, acetone and any solvents.

What is the difference between the installation of an acrylic whirlpool bath and the installation of a cast-iron bath?

An acrylic bath can be easily installed by one person, while it is out of the question to install a cast-iron bath even together! The cast-iron bath weighs several times more. This fact must be taken into consideration when calculating overlap in country houses and cottages. A large number of supports of acrylic baths (manufactured by "Akrilan"), 8 acrylic bath’s supports against 4 cast-iron bath’s supports, makes it easier to redistribute the pressure on the supporting structures.

What is the difference between chromotherapy and usual illumination?

Underwater illumination bears only a decorative character. While chromotherapy, light therapy, is one more kind of natural treatment.

Chromotherapy by virtue of its universality has a multifaceted impact on the human condition. The impact of light waves can tie together the functions of the skin, hormonal system, human internal organs and can bring them into harmony.

The purpose of chromotherapy system is not limited to creating a colourful underwater extravaganza. Light and color treatment is one of the recognized methods of modern cosmetology which gives excellent results and has no contraindications. It is based on photoreception theory: red color has a stimulating effect, green — tonic, yellow - firming, blue - relaxing.

Using chromotherapy alone gives very smooth and gradual effect, but its influence considerably amplifies when it is used in a complex with whirlpool.

What is the life of acrylic bathtubs?

The service life of acrylic bathtubs, made of cast sanitary acrylic, 4-5 mm thick, is not less than 15 years.

Which is better: whirlpool or airpool?

Whirlpool. Acrylic bathtub with whirlpool is an amazing invention, which gives much pleasure, helps to relieve stress load and fills you with energy. The uniqueness of whirlpool systems is that water and air are mixed in a "jet". Water captures air and breaks it, becoming a mixture of "microbubbles." Each jet in the whirlpool bath produces about 17 million tiny "micro" per minute (data may vary depending on the type of the nozzle). Due to the low resistance of water and due to the conservation of given speed, air particles are not pushed to the surface, but they convert into a "spurt stream", which affect your body. As a rule, whirlpool jets are located on the side walls of the tub. You can adjust the direction and power of water spurts and you also can program their alternate integration. Pumps are set to the case of a bath, used by many well-known companies with the capacity of 0,7-1,3 kw.

Airpool. Airpool is a system that uses the effect of force air, prompted by natural geyser springs. Water is not used. The flows of clean air are produced through the jets located at the bottom of the bath. Thus air bubbles gently envelop the entire body, creating an unforgettable experience. This massage system can be used individually and in combination with whirlpool. The combination of 2-modes in a complete set of "Akrilan" bathtubs is called "De Luxe".

How much electricity does it consume while working, equipped with a whirlpool and airpool systems?

The consumption of electricity depends on the load:

- Capacity of the pump installed on whirlpool system is 900 W;
- Capacity of the pump installed on airpool system is 700 W
If we assume that the average duration taking the spa is 20-30 minutes, than the amount of consumed energy is 0.7-1kW / h.

Will the acrylic whirlpool work in spite of faint water head?

Yes, it will. A faint water head will only affect the filling rate. While whirlpool system is in process it uses the water which is already in the bathtub.

How does poor water affect acrylic bathtub?

Poor water has no effect on the surface of acrylic bathtubs. The main thing is to regularly clean the surface of the bathtub with compositions for cleaning acrylic surfaces, which are sold in the same stores as acrylic bathtubs. Otherwise, over time a thin coating of dirt may appear on the surface of the bath.

Poor quality of water can affect the whirlpool equipment. Therefore, at least 1 time per month whirlpool jets shall be washed with special cleaning agents that are sold in store. Moreover, you can set filters for water pipes. This will extend the life of mixing faucets and whirlpool equipment of an acrylic bathtub.

Does the colour of the acryl somehow affect its quality or not?

The color of an acrylic sheet has no effect on the quality of the acrylic baths. At all!

My husband weighs 140 kg. Can he press through acrylic bathtub?

Acrylic bathtubs manufactured by CC "MC" Akrilan "" are able to withstand greater press.
To produce “Akrilan" bathtubs we use acrylic sheets provided by the world's leading supplier Altuglas (France). Acrylic bathtub is a three-layer structure consisting of:
- Acrylic sheet whose thickness is 4-5 mm;
- Reinforcing layer made of fiberglass and epoxy resin whose thickness is 2-4 mm;
- Chipboard strengthening at the bottom.

Acrylic characteristics:

The plasticity of acrylic allows to make future acrylic bathtub of all shapes and sizes.

Monolithic acrylic layer provides high operational properties of a bathtub. Reinforcing layer gives the necessary rigidity to the acrylic bath. The greater the number of reinforcement layers, the higher the quality of acrylic bathtubs. The number of layers can be determined by the sound: the greater the number of layers, the duller the sound. Chipboard strengthening at the bottom of the acrylic bathtub provides the distribution of the body weight across the bottom of the surface.

In addition the bathtub is installed on a metal welded frame that has from 6 to 9 points of support. This significantly increases the stability and durability of the acrylic bathtubs.

What is acryl?

Acryl is material actively used for production of acrylic baths. In everyday life it is called acrilan. We use only high quality sanitary cast 4 mm thick acryl for production of acrylic baths “Akrilan”. In order to reduce the price some companies use ABS/PMMA (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/ polymethyl methacrylate) which is a cheap acrilan substitute. It differs from acrylic in thickness: the acrylic layer is only 1 mm surface, the rest is rubber plastic, ABS.

ABS/PMMA is produced by extrusion, in the result molecules of the material are torn from each other. Extrusion process is a kind of assembly line for mass production of cheap products. It is not always suitable for formation of products, since there is the danger of cracks on the surface after a short period of using it. This is primarily due to the different thermal conductivity of ABS and PMMA, under the course of heating water one material expands more rapidly. Upon cooling the process is reserved. As a result, the material is "shaken" and there are cracks in the drain and installation of jets.

Acryl which is used by “Akrilan” is produced by molding process. It is more complicated and expensive technology. Each sheet is made individually, it takes its own form. Upon heating and cooling the sheet behaves as a unified organism. The lifetime of acrylic baths is more than 10 years, if its aesthetic look is maintained. It is also important that in a sanitary cast acryl there are antibacterial additives which protect skin from microbes. Other materials used for bath producing: metal, cast iron and ABS/PMMA,–don’t have this advantage.

The company "MC "Akrilan"" uses only high quality materials for production – cast acrylic is one of them.

Characteristics of acryl:
The plasticity of acryl allows us to make an acrylic bath of any shape and size.
There are antimicrobial agents in the acrylic sheet.
Acrylic elastic structure makes it resistant to blows. If scratches or cracks appear on the surface of a bath, they can be removed with liquid polishing compounds which are usually sold in the same shops as acrylic baths “Akrilan”.

Variety of colors.

The colour is resistant to sunlight, hard water, long-term operation. The product of sanitary cast acryl is stained to the depth of the sheet, but not superficially as one made of ABS/PMMA, metal or cast iron.
Acryl has good thermal insulation and noise insulation properties: it makes water stay warm and the noise level is low when you fill the acryl bath with water. Bath heats up quickly and keeps the water warm for a long time.

Different lifetime of materials:
- Baths made of 100% cast ACRYL– 10 years;
- Baths made of ABS/PMMA – 3 years.

Different maintainability of materials

Baths made of 100% cast acryl – in 3-5 years after using it you can polish the bath surface using a drill with a felt wheel if necessary. A bath will look like a new one.
Baths made of ABS/PMMA - acrylic surface layer is very thin, so it is dangerous to conduct such "experiments" with a bath made of ABS/PMMA. The slightest scratch on the bath or even a slight grinding leads to the removal of the protective acrylic layer and the appearance of yellow spots.

What are the different characteristics of the expansion of the material upon heating?

Due to the fact that the sheet ABS/PMMA is a result of co-extrusion of two types of plastic: ABS and PMMA, which have different characteristics of the material expansion during heating and cooling, when using the bath made of ABS/PMMA frequent temperature drops lead to formation of microcracks on the surface of PMMA in which the dirt stores. Field-performance data of the bath doesn’t get worse, but the view considerably changes. Baths made of 100% cast acryl are homogeneous and maintain their look throughout the life cycle.

Do the materials have different surface structure?

- 100% cast ACRYL has the highest surface durability of all types of thermoplastics. It provides higher surface solidity and durability of acrylic baths, its resistance to abrasion and high chemical resistance. Acryl has good physical, mechanical and electrical insulating properties, physiologically harmless and is resistant to the influence of water and biological environment. Glossy, non-porous surface protects itself from the deposition of dirt and prevents bacterial growth.

- ABS/PMMA has a rough surface structure.

Acrylic bath – How to choose the right one?

The most important for the look and for the durability of the bath is a material which it is made of. If you decide to buy an ACRYLIC BATH, we suggest you to read carefully the following information.

Acrylic baths can be made of two fundamentally different types of materials - of 100% ACRYL or of ABS/PMMA:

- 100% cast ACRYL – thickness of the acrylic layer is 4-5 mm (i.e., the material is homogeneous);
- "Sandwich" ABS/PMMA (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene/polymethylmethacrylate) - sheet is made by co-extrusion ABS and PMMA. The thickness of the acrylic layer is only 0.4-0.5 mm, that is only 5-10%, the main part (90-95%) is made of ABS – plastic, the main disadvantage of which is the low solidity (it is easily scratched). It is impossible to distinguish visually between the two materials looking at the end product, so it’s necessary to ask the salesman about the material which a bath made of, you should pay attention to the cutoff on the bath board too.
